It's... it's the day of your birth. Doesn't get any clearer than that. Kinda important to know yours, it's how you know when you're allowed to start drinking and shooting, if you're normal, but hey, I'm not. My dad's a planet and the other one said he'd eat me as a kid. Wow, do I have issues--
[ He squints at her, sort of realizing that her upbringing was screwed up, too. Not her fault, of course, but now he's curious about something... ]
[ she smiles a little bit at his self-deprecation, but it doesn't last for very long. she's very aware that she isn't "normal" either, but at least Peter knows when he was born. ]
I am afraid I do not know mine. Ego found me when I was very young... I don't remember how old I was exactly, or how many years have passed since then. [ she pauses. ] All I know is that I wasn't really "born" - my species hatches from eggs, and we emerge as larvae.
[ she is very much sleeping! she has to get the energy for her powers somehow, and that means lots of naps. she's also very good at taking them close to anywhere, and this is the spot she has deemed most comfortable!
she's right in the middle of a very nice dream, so Rocket's whispering doesn't do much besides stirring her for a moment. you're gonna have to be more creative than that, puppy. ]
[ Rocket groans. okay, great, time for more drastic measures. he scampers up and pulls on one of her antenna. is that gross? hopefully it's not too gross. ]
[ it may not be gross, but it does startle her quite a bit - her antenna are incredibly sensitive, and they're the one part of her that she protects the most. unfortunately, that protection is almost completely instinctual.
which is why, as he pulls, she immediately wakes up and hits him in the gut. she shakes her head to try and will the odd sensation away, but quickly realizes that someone is hurt! ]
Rocket! Are you okay?
[ what she doesn't realize is that she was the one to do that. ]
